Demand to end the Annual Cull saves seal pups

The pressure of many local celebrities halt this year’s annual cull of baby seals slaughtered in the White Sea of Archangel, Russia. The blood of thousands of cubs stain the white coast, increasing the demand from many locals in the Northern region of Russia to put an end to this cruelty. The scheduled cull for March has also been warned by nature itself, as Russian environmentalists report that the ice floors were unsafe to walk on due to the climate conditions. Officials of Archangel insisted that it was for the protection of the hunters, and not the seals. Although the sport for hunting has been a strong tradition in Russia, locals protest of the fact that many seals just a few months old have suffered for the human benefit of their white fur. Viktor Gusev, a sports commentator reports that there is a need for a serious draft law to put an end to the killings. But a spokeswoman for the Governor of Archangel say that the regional administration was seeking to end the cull and to work on legislation to ban this trade. A petition has been signed by around 335,000 people to try and bring forth animal rights.
